In pictures: Parisian cafés
As part of a new initiative to picture the world, bloggers at The Departure Board website are creating a gallery of stunning photos with one from every country in the world. I thought it was a great idea so went looking for something to submit. Each picture should reflect the country it’s taken of, so when I was picking an image which sums up France to me, it had to be a pavement café. I had a few to chose from, but chose the top one below. It was taken in Montmartre, but you find scenes like this all over France. It’s a country where people take their eating and drinking seriously. Whether catching up with a group of friends or on your own watching the world go by, it’s something to be savoured and not to be rushed.

Oooh gorgeous photos, Lucy! How to select just one? Thanks for the nomination. I came on here to do some work but I can see I’ll end up daydreaming, as ever!
I know that feeling! Look forward to seeing what you choose for Portugal out of all your lovely photos.
Thank for the nomination Lucy, as jo says how to pick just one!
Great photos here Lucy. Really love the treatment you’ve used on that last photo – gorgeous!
Thanks Kat. The last one was at dusk and the light was getting a bit flat but a bit of HDR on it really brought out the colours and it almost looks like a painting.
Beautiful and so evocative of Paris! Particularly love the last one!
Parisian cafés are such an icon of the city aren’t they, I always end up taking loads of photos of them!
Beautiful capture of the cafes!
Thanks Karen, they’re one of my favourite things to take photos of in France!
I like your cafe society shots. The HDR-look is kept within bounds. Oodles of atmosphere.
Thanks Rachael, I had fun playing about with them – I like a bit of HDR sometimes but try to stop it looking too fake!
These are gorgeous…very romantic!
Thanks, Paris really is a romantic city!
Hi Lucy, a big thank you from the departureboard for taking part and promoting our project. Looks like you had plenty of gorgeous shots to choose from!
kind regards, Si
Thanks Si, good luck with the project and I look forward to seeing what shots are submitted!
Gorgeous shots, all of them! Well done and well picked out
Thanks Marina, I went a bit mad with the cafe photos when I was in Paris so had a good few to choose from!
p.s Hope you’ll submit a photo for one of the countries too!
You have a niche Lucy! i see a coffee table book in the making
Charming photographs of ‘la Ville-Lumière,’ Lucy!
Thanks Tricia, I just came across your site from Suzanne, The Travelbunny, and have been reliving my SE Asia and India travels through your lovely photos!
I’m so pleased to connect with such talented bloggers thanks to Suzanne! How long ago did you trek through Southeast Asia, Lucy?
Your gorgeous Paris pics have me wanting to hop on a train right now!
I did a 16-month RTW about 8 years ago and was in India for a month and SE Asia for 5 months then Australia. Such an amazing trip – might have to revisit a few places though now I have a better camera, it’s such a photogenic area!
16 months – that is fantastic! My husband and I just wrapped up the first leg (Asia) of our trip. Embarking on one had been a dream for some time. Do you have any retroactive posts from your trip on your site?
My RTW got a few mentions in this post http://ontheluce.com/2011/12/31/my-a-to-z-of-travel/ – but I really need to get a negative scanner as all my photos are pre-digital. Hope to revisit a few of the places in the next year or so, so a ’10 years on’ comparison series might be in order!
Lucy, a fun read; thanks for sharing! I’m with you on the pre-dig scans. I’m visiting my parents now and am exhausted just looking at the boxes and tins overflowing with classic pictures. Hopefully someday soon! It’d probably be fun to see how our respective pictures would evolve a decade later.
A great idea
Thanks, and hope you’ll submit a photo too, you have some lovely shots.
Beautiful fotos!
Thank you – and thanks for stopping by my site.
