In pictures: Goodwood Revival 2012

Racing car at the Goodwood Revival 2012

Over a weekend each September, a patch of countryside north of Chichester in West Sussex reverts back to the 1950s for the Goodwood Revival vintage event. Goodwood’s motor racing circuit opened in 1948 and was used for endurance races in the 1950s before it closed in 1966. Later the circuit and buildings were restored and refurbished and the first Goodwood Revival was held in 2006, 50 years to the day after it closed. Everything on the site – from cars and aircraft to music and fashion – dates back to the circuit’s 1948–1966 heyday, with over 300,000 visitors over three days this year. It’s like stepping back in time as you pass a group of Land Girls or Dad’s Army volunteers, see scooters lined up outside a retro Tesco, dance to a swing band, drink tea from a tin mug, or even find yourself stopped by a 1950s policeman!

    • It is fantastic – especially if you like vintage clothes it’s a great excuse to dress up, there are some amazing outfits on show.

    • Great isn’t it, we try to go every other year for the last few years and have been so lucky and got sunny weather every time so far.

  6. This is only up the road from me but I’ve never been. It looks brilliant and I have just the dress to wear!
The picture of Tesco brought back some memories. I don’t remember Tesco being around when I was a child but I certianly remember Green Shield stamps. I loved looking through their catalogue and choosing a christmas present every year!

    • You should definitely try to come along sometime, the dressing up is the best bit too! The retro Tesco was new this year and even had all the reproduction packaging from the era in it too, the attention to detail at the Revival is always fantastic.

  7. Nice pics, especially the dancers. I’m in the cap with beard and my other half in the pink dress dancing with our friends. Great band too (Ding Dong Daddios). Hope to be back next year :)

    • How funny that I managed to capture you in a photo! The dancing was great, we sat and watched for ages. It’s such a fantastic event, I’ll definitely be back too.
